submissions are open for issue 8: magic and mystery in atlantic city

the spirits of atlantic city have always come here for the summer months. pre-development, this once woodsy and marshy coast would go quiet with nothing but the waves, wildlife, and, according to the lenape, many gods and spirits. the lenape, meaning "original people," roamed this land in the summer months, building temporary homes out of the cedar trees that once grew all over absecon island, clamming and catching oysters, preparing for the winter. the pine barrens stretch out just past the expressway. lucia, of ornamental, told me once that technically, atlantic city is the pine barrens. and she's a certified piney so take that how you will.

there are stories in the sand and marshes here that people have been passing down for hundreds of years, about creatures, curses, murder, hauntings. but this isn't just a spooky issue. in this issue, we are exploring how that lore influences locals and tourists alike. we celebrate staying after the weather gets nasty and the beach gets cold. the mystery that lives in a good song, a tarot card that flew out of its deck at you. we aren't going to explain the unexplainable, but we are certainly going to explore it, together.

the theme is loose. follow it or don't.

selected submissions will be emailed a completed copy of the .pdf the day of print, thus notifying you of inclusion. in your submission please include a name you're comfy sharing in the print magazine, or if you wish to remain anonymous.

we welcome submissions of all kind: rants, writings, fine art, poetry, pictures, recipes, stories, memories, songs, thoughts, funnies, comics, etc. we don't really have any limitations but for longer form pieces, please note you may have to condense and host part of your material online.

i am also always looking for fun or cool ways to collab. if you have a cover story, i wanna hear it.

i will not take phone calls! don't call me, don't ask. i don't have a phone.
