meadow nel

ac local artist, resident sweetheart, you may know her from irish pub

where in atlantic city do you feel most like yourself?
definitely by the ocean, walking along from atlantic city to margate. it's not only where i feel most connected to the city, but the world honestly.

what changes for you when you're high here?
i'm just truly more myself. i laugh more. i smile more.

how are you celebrating 420?
i'll be celebrating on the norstep cannabis boat ride.

be honest -- are we ever getting the pub back or should we all stop pretending?
a girl can dream is all i can say.

ideal atlantic city night, start to finish?
really depends on what your vibe is. if it's a bar crawl with your friends, we have the perfect spot -- hit the orange loop and then walk from the casinos from there. and if it's an ideal night, of course i'm smoking. i'll have my little doctor dabber on me. i'll throw a dab in there as i'm walking around. the best wax on the market right now is EV's so i'd probably be smoking on a little bit of that. you gotta hit all the iconic spots -- tony's, bar 32, tennessee ave, kings pub, the irish pub. i'm basically describing my 21st birthday in atlantic city.

best place in ac to be a little too high?
outside of anchor rock club when i'm smoking with all my favorite people with the best bands or djs in the background.

worst place?
on the casino floor. they don't like that.

your top dispos in south jersey?
honeybuzz, sunnytien, and mpx for sure.

jersey brand you'll defend like it's your cousin?
EV cultivation and parks grove. they are the two best right now.

brand that let you down?
most nj brands at this point sadly.

what are you reaching for right now?
i've been reaching for my hash rosin lately. i've been very into dabbing.

are you a "get things done" high or a "sit and stare at the ceiling" high?
i am both. it's all in what you're smoking.

song that hits different when you're stoned in atlantic city?
bong shop sword shop. smoke a joint, walk down the boardwalk, and listen to bong shop sword shop. it is a fantastic time.

something in ac that feels almost too real when you're high?
definitely the monopoly board around the city. it's always pretty comical when you're walking aroun
d and then you think -- man, i'm living inside the monopoly board.

last perfect moment you had here?
we just had that one fluke warm day and i had a very nice time walking my dog down the boardwalk. anytime when you can just walk and be in the moment and not think of anything else is a wonderful time.

what's something in ac that feels beautiful and something that feels a little wrecked?
the boardwalk -- both. it connects the city to the ocean. it's the border. the place we all walk, we all gather. it's beautiful, but sometimes the nail that sticks up. the timeshares and the perfume guys can make it a headache, but at the same time it's one of the best places to walk in the city because you have the best sights.

have you ever had a moment here where you felt really aware of the ocean?
one night after i got off work i walked down to the ocean and was just staring into the water. it was dark. i realized oh my god it's dark but i'm staring at the ocean -- and i started to get very creeped out and i ran away.

if you could change one thing about how weed is sold or consumed in new jersey?
two things actually. weed should be allowed to be consumed in the same area as alcohol. and dispensaries should be able to set up outside of events to sell.

do you believe in luck?
of course i believe in luck because i'm lucky enough to be here.

do you think people in atlantic city believe in luck or just chase it?
i think a lot of people are chasing luck for sure. but who runs for what they don't believe in?

luckiest moment you've had here?
meeting the love of my life. he was one of the first people i met when i came into the city -- it was at orientation at brigada.

unluckiest?
any time i've gone gambling.

have you ever felt like something in this city was rigged?
i always feel like gambling is in the house's favor.

do you think getting high is a moral thing, immoral, or neither?
it's not a moral issue at all. even if you're against drugs -- weed is a plant.

did you grow up around any religious or moral ideas about weed?
growing up i went back and forth between manchester, tennessee and normalville, pennsylvania -- very different places. manchester was right in the bible belt, growing up around a lot of catholics. but the one thing that stood true no matter where i was -- most people genuinely considered weed a plant, something given to them from god, and not a drug.

how have views on weed changed as you've grown up?
i've felt the same belief throughout. i've seen weed do amazing things for my own sick grandfather with stage four cancer. whenever he doesn't smoke, he can't eat, he isn't the same person because of treatments. but when he does smoke, it is some of the only times that he feels human.

do you think atlantic city has its own kind of morality?

i think atlantic city loves weed. we just have people who don't actually understand cannabis making laws about it.
have you ever felt judged here, or is it more like anything goes?
atlantic city is the place where you can be yourself 100% of the time. not every single person you walk past will be cool, but 90% will be.
