ventnor’s very own cj sooy just dropped a record and it sounds like 2001 in the best way

cj has spent the last year writing and recording this album, and somehow managed to make a record that sounds distinctly new while also feeling like it fell out of somebody’s cd binder in 2001.
there’s 90s alt-rock all over it, a little goo goo dolls, a little elliott smith, some psychy haze around the edges, guitars that actually sound like guitars. it’s earnest without becoming embarrassing about it, which is harder to pull off than people think.

the whole thing is just five songs: yesterday, drive, sloane, marigold and is anything real. it’s short enough that you can listen to the entire record instead of telling yourself you’ll “come back to it later” and then dying someday with 4,000 saved albums on spotify you promised you'd listen to. cj has a great group of musicians playing with him, too. it just sounds good you can go listen if you want.
anyway, i like it.
listen to is anything real wherever you listen to music, and if you’re a physical-media sicko, there’s also a limited 12" vinyl pressing available through cj’s website.
also, important journalism: cj is into clown girls and is single, so if any red-nosed, big-shoe-wearing ladies are reading this and looking to mingle, i have now done everything i can for the local arts community.
also, more important journalism, i heard a rumor the bitch who runs the diving horse and her husband are the stars of a very cool new stop motion music video mr. sooy is putting out.
you’re welcome.
